Development of e-Learning Applications for Chemical Engineering Education in “POLITEHNICA“ University of Bucharest

1. INTRODUCTION Engineering education is adapted to the general needs of modern economy, dominated by the globalisation, aiming to assure a better employability of young specialists. The rapid changes in Romanian economy demands specialist that can easily acquire knowledge in new fields of activity. A correct curriculum design includes new approaches of engineering education and can create a flexible formation of specialists ([1]-[2]). Modern technologies have led to the development of education mainly based on information technology and communications (ITC) [3]. By e−learning it is generally understood a learning activity where ITC resources such as hardware resources (computers, routers, video projectors, acquisition cards, etc) and/or software resources (simulators, interactive multimedia applications, e−books, etc) are involved. e-Learning represents the newest approach to the permanent learning process, both individual and institutionalised, in the same time flexible and long distance accessible in the informational society. The present paper contains some case studies developed in " POLITEHNICA " University of Bucharest in the field of fundamentals of chemical engineering and unit operations in process industries.
